My novel is still moving along. I am learning that, as a beginner novelist, I can enrich the storyline’s framework by learning from others about writing techniques and concepts in the art of surveillance. This evening, I attended an excellent presentation by Adam Sikes, a former CIA paramilitary operations officer and US Marine Corps combat veteran. He has lived and operated around the world with tours in the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and Europe, and his experiences now inform his writing. He presented Surveillance: What is It, How to Write It.
He described concepts, entities, technologies (emerging technologies), tactics, methods, and scenarios. It matters to hear someone who has been in multiple environments and could eloquently speak to writing it all.
Since the presentation was being recorded, I took in as much as I could while he got everything out. But I will be reviewing the recording a couple more times. He is also releasing his own novel, as well.
He really gave me some things to think about with my own story plots. I was already going to rework some of my dialogue sections. Now, I think I will look at the whole storyline and see what needs some adjustment.
There aren’t many reference materials for spy novels, but there are a lot for romance. But that’s okay. I am going to learn it on my own. But when those like Mr. Sikes come along and give great information, it is worth the time and effort to listen.
I asked whether he is doing any more of these presentations, and he said yes. So, keep your eyes and ears open for Adam Sikes.
