Using his years of experience as a foreign service officer, he crafts this tale of a washed-up diplomat who is given a second chance to work in the American Embassy in the Congo. It might be said that the author is putting his life in a fictional account with the experience of working in consulates and embassies, the ins and outs, the challenges of living in a foreign country with secrets and clearance violations. The main character, Alex Baines struggles to balance the best interests of the United States and the fate of the people of the Congo. He discovers an American mining company taking advantage of the country with shady deals. His loyalties are put to the test as he races to determine the correct course of action.
